Promise Keepers: Statement regarding recent attacks on Colorado Christian communities
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Gospel of John 10:10
Promise Keepers shares in deep grief with its brothers and sisters over the shootings at the Youth With A Mission base in Arvada and at New Life Church in Colorado Springs on Sunday, December 9, 2007. "Our prayers remain with these families and the Christian community at large," says Dr. Tom Fortson – President and CEO of Promise Keepers.
We are reminded by the words of Jesus Christ that mankind has a violent spiritual adversary with real weapons that cause very real pain. Our faith is based on the fact that we have a Savior and Advocate who gives us life, health and provision. Even on this sad day, we have hope.
Promise Keepers salutes the courage and commitment of the young missionaries that were attacked. Although their work is a tangible blessing in thousands of communities around the world, missionaries’ work is often dangerous, and usually unseen. It should be noted that the first victim shot at the New Life Church was a teenage girl, who had been on a mission trip… yes, another missionary. Get the connection? These brave young people represent a multitude of faithful missionary workers.
The simple act of worshipping together as a family should not be a life and death matter, nor should a shopping trip to the mall be a dangerous event. We encourage fathers and mothers to stay close to their sons and daughters. We urge men to avoid isolation and stay connected with other men.
