Male Involvement on the Rise

June 6, 2008 - Denver, CO - As June 15th fast approaches, we at Promise Keepers want to celebrate the news about men that PTA (The National Parent Teacher Association) has recently published.

According to their poll results released on June 5th, close to 50 percent of parent leaders said that male involvement had increased in PTA in the last three years. This is a significant number. It means that more fathers are getting involved in their children’s education than ever in the past.

It is awesome news to hear that PTA has effectively built outreach to its men (more than half of PTAs have a specially designed outreach to males) so that they have become more involved in the organization and more active in their children’s (and other children’s) lives. We are gratified by the fact that PTA recognizes the importance of male role models in achieving their vision of “making every child’s potential a reality.” And we are excited that PTA and MORE (Men Organized to Raise Engagement) are partnering to work to continue this trend.

This new partnership recognizes that “greater involvement of men in the lives of children helps them achieve success socially, intellectually and academically.”

Hopefully, this recognition will help to combat the downward spiral of father absenteeism and fatherlessness in our nation, which has taken a growing and recognizable toll on the lives of our children and nation.
