Founded in 1971, the organization works to help people pull themselves from poverty through programs that include relief, agriculture, water system development, micro enterprise loans, health education, skills training and child sponsorship. Three primary groups are targeted: (1) Community leaders, to see them increasingly solving the problems within their communities; (2) Church leaders, to see them increasingly reaching out to individuals and families within their communities; (3) Families, to see them increasingly meeting the needs of family members. Hands-on ministry opportunities include short-term missions teams and longer-term assignments (a few weeks to several years) through the Hunger Corps program. Operation Carelift provides emergency food, medicine, clothing, and other supplies for needy children and families. Twice a year, a team of 300-400 volunteer participants travels with us to Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine to visit orphanages, boarding schools, hospitals, youth prisons, and other places of need. At each site, we are doing more than just meeting physical needs. We are sharing the love and message of Jesus Christ through personal interaction, gospel presentations, and Christian literature.
