HTML vs TEXT Email
HTML
There are two types of email that Promise Keepers sends. The first and most versatile is called HTML email. HTML email is written in the same code used to create webpages and has the ability to use color, images, a variety of fonts and other features commonly associated with what one might find on a webpage.
Pros and Cons
- HTML allows PK to better organize the content of the message, making it much easier to read.
- Because HTML can use color, images and a variety of different fonts, we can present email messages in an aesthetically pleasing format.
- HTML messages tend to be larger and therefore slower to load. Subscribers on dial-up Internet accounts may want to reconsider receiving HTML email.
- Those on broadband accounts such as cable or DSL would likely not notice any appreciable reduction in the speed that HTML email would be delivered.
- Because of the methods used to create and deliver HTML email, there is a potential for undesirable content and viruses to be included.
- However, much of this undesirable content can be blocked by using virus and SPAM filters.
- Because HTML presents a slightly larger risk than TEXT based e-mail, some ISPs have chosen to block HTML mail entirely or merely convert it to text [if you are receiving mangled text email, this is possibly the cause]. Users should contact their ISP to determine what their policy is regarding HTML before setting PK preferences to HTML.
- pkFamily.com, Promise Keepers’ filtered Internet service, allows HTML mail and has filters built-in to help block undesirable content.
TEXT
Text based email can use only TEXT. No colors or images can be included in TEXT email.
Pros and Cons
- Because TEXT email contains no graphics or complex computer language, it is very compact and loads quickly [unless images or other files have been included as an attachment].
- TEXT email is not blocked by ISPs in the same manner as HTML.
- While it is more difficult to engage, TEXT e-mail can also contain viruses and undesirable content.
- TEXT email is very plain and somewhat difficult to organize without becoming confusing to the reader.
- Links to online content in TEXT email tend to be long and convoluted, often broken by the mail reader.
- TEXT email can suffer from further formatting issues because of the mail reader’s tendency to break sentences up and insert characters other than letters.
It is far less appealing aesthetically.
IMPORTANT!
Whichever style of email you choose to receive from Promise Keepers, be sure that the settings for your ISP [this includes SPAM blockers that may be provided by your service], the program that you use to read email [Outlook, Eudora, etc.] and your preferences in MyAccount are all set to the same style. If you are having difficulty with your email not getting to you or being received in a mangled, unreadable condition, it is likely due to a mismatched setting in one of these three areas. If you have checked the above and you are still having problems, please contact your ISP’s customer support center or a reliable computer professional.

I’m not getting PK email
As many of us are aware, the issue of email spam is a growing concern. As companies design new ways to help prevent spam from getting to our email boxes, spammers find new ways to get around the blocking measures. The results of blocking are not perfect and sometimes mail you actually want doesn’t get through.
If you have signed up to receive email from Promise Keepers such as the monthly e-newsletter, and you are not receiving it, it is possible that your anti-spam measures are blocking them.
Be sure to check with your Internet service provider to make sure your settings are where they need to be, or contact a qualified computer professional.

Setting my email preferences
You will need to have a Promise Keepers username and password. If you have not logged in to MyAccount before, you will need to go through the new account setup by clicking on the “Login” link (at the bottom of every page) and follow the Create a new account link. If you already have your account, type in your Username and Password where indicated. If you have forgotten your password, click on the I forgot my password link.
Once you have successfully logged in, you can set all of your mailing options, change your phone number, change your email address and other information that Promise Keepers uses to serve you. Making these changes yourself is easy and saves Promise Keepers valuable resources.
